THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Before coming to our Ruislip acupuncturist, you can read some free sample pages on our website.
Here is a very small taster:

Hands

I regularly hear smokers say they can’t stop because if they did they wouldn’t know what to do with their hands.

Tobacco kills three hundred Britons every day, and you want to tell me you do it for something to do with your hands, that you’re in the habit of having a cigarette between your fingers and you can’t stop because what else would you do? Let me explain where this idea goes wrong.

Which part of your body do you smoke with? Your mouth? No, that’s just where you stick the cigarette, but your mouth doesn’t really do any work. OK, I’ll tell you the answer, it’s your hands. Yes, the instant you think of a cigarette your hands go into action. They find the pack, they find the lighter and the ashtray and they open the pack and take one out and light it and then, and only then, is your mouth asked to do any work, which amounts to no more than sucking.

So when you want to smoke it is your hands that receive a signal to go into action, and it is your hands that get the fidgets when you are trying not to smoke, but not because your hands like holding cigarettes, obviously. mm

After all, what’s to stop you doing all that stuff and not actually lighting it? You could even suck on it quite harmlessly, as long as you didn’t light it, and that tells you what’s missing. The nice feeling of hot smoke in your mouth? No, think again. That’s right, nicotine. Your hands feed you with nicotine. That’s why, when you are craving a cigarette, your hands want to do something.

You could hold a cigarette, you could suck it, or if that scares you you can hold just about anything, but never again think you can’t stop smoking because you need something in your hands.

TALK WITH OUR ACUPUNCTURIST FIRST

When you call us about hypnosis, or complete the enquiry form, we will contact you to discuss whether hypnotherapy is what you need. Once we are sure, we will have our Ruislip acupuncturist phone you. They are highly qualified, of course, but you will still want to see if you like them. Hypnotherapy is great, which is why we provide it, but your success will to some extent depend on your relationship with the hypnotherapist you see.

OTHER RUISLIP STOP SMOKING RESOURCES

Acupuncture might not be what you need. If you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Hillingdon Council website here.
