NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP SMOKING
Sometimes, people come to us not to stop smoking but for smoking reduction. It’s a choice they make, and we publish a book on reduction. ‘No, You Don’t Have to Stop Smoking’ will be of interest even if you do want to stop completely. ….. This chapter is what this book is really about. Here, I am going to introduce you to a concept so simple, and yet so important, that you will wonder why you never thought of it yourself, and why no-one else has thought of it either.
I have already touched on the reason why you smoke the number of cigarettes you do, which in short is that there isn’t one. A reason, I mean. Why do some people smoke 20 a day, while others smoke 40 or even 60, and yet others smoke very lightly and some people can even be ‘social smokers’ (and perhaps you wish you could be one of them, which you can, which I’ll be telling you about later.)? I know that if we ask them this question they won’t be able to answer it. The reason I know this is because we have done it.
Heavy smokers will normally say they smoke so much because they are stressed (because they believe smoking relieves stress, which it doesn’t but they think it does), meaning if they were less stressed they would smoke less, which is possible but unlikely. Other than that, though, most people don’t know why they smoke the number they do. They have never even thought about it.
