This fee covers three treatments. Many patients stop after just two, but the third one is there for you if you need it. There is also a three-year AfterCare support programme.

A STOP-SMOKING TIP
We want to emphasise what our service is, and what it isn’t. First, what it isn’t. We are not a referral service. Our Hull hypnotist and acupuncturist are Partners in the full meaning of the word. We work with our therapists to give you the best possible service. They represent NSSC in Hull, and we back them up with technical expertise and support.
So how does this help you? We are a service provider, the largest independent service in the country, for smokers. Our advice to you here is to take advantage of the huge resources we have. If you have a problem talk to us about it. Many smokers think there’s no point, but that’s not right. We have more knowledge than any other organisation in our field, not excluding the National Health Service.
If you are struggling, even if you make a mistake and smoke, please don’t assume you have failed. Making a mistake is normal and forgivable. Accepting failure may be normal but it is not forgivable. We have over twenty-six years of experience in smoking cessation. What we can do will probably surprise you.
Our Hull hypnotherapist and acupuncturist are just two parts of this partnership. Before you book with either of them, read about NSSC on the other pages here. If you would like to talk with us first, call our national advice team on 01200 40 50 22. We will be very happy to advise you on any aspect of stopping smoking. You don’t even have to book up with us. We’re just pleased to help.
NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP SMOKING
Sometimes people come to us not to stop smoking but for smoking reduction. It’s a choice they make, and we publish a book on reduction. ‘No, You Don’t Have to Stop Smoking’ might be of interest even if you do want to stop completely. Why not take a look at it before you visit our Hull hypnosis or acupuncture branch. Here’s a taster to get you started.
….. The tobacco companies know their users will find it hard to stop smoking because they are addicted to nicotine, but they also know that every user is also afraid to even try to stop smoking, and just as dependence is the first line of defence for addiction, it is also what protects the tobacco companies’ profits. They know that every smoker could stop, because addiction can, of course, be overcome, but they also know that their users will find any excuse not to try. They also know, by the way, that every time you try to stop smoking and fail, it increases your psychological dependence; failure reinforces the message that you couldn’t live without tobacco. (By the way, the tobacco companies know more than I do about their drug. Of course they do – their profits depend on it. And they certainly know more than the medical profession knows.)
A SHORT CASE HISTORY
From our Hull hypnotherapy branch
Our Hull hypnotist saw Doreen, who had the same problem a lot of people have. When she stopped smoking she put weight on. She put a lot on the last time, and she smoked again. She didn’t want to smoke. In fact, she was desperately unhappy about it. And to make matters worse, she hadn’t lost all the weight she put on last time, so now she was unhappy about being fat AND smoking.
Our Hull hypnotherapist had herself recently seen two such clients, both women, before Doreen. So before Doreen attended the session we went through some issues with her from our AfterCare telephone counselling service.
The issue, for many smokers, seems to be that being overweight is visible, and therefore an immediate problem. This is true. Lung disease is not visible, and can take years of smoking to develop. However, you need to bear in mind that weight can be lost; by the time you have emphysema or lung cancer the damage is done. Unlike weight gain there is no going back. Our Hull hypnotist, inevitably, sees people for whom it is too late, and that’s sad. She also sees overweight clients, and that isn’t.
We explained this to Doreen, and whilst she accepted it on the intellectual level accepting it on the emotional level was harder. You know, intellectually, that you need to stop smoking, but you don’t do it. This is because you can’t accept it on an emotional level. The people who stop smoking – just stop – are those who have an emotional breakthrough. Suddenly, they understand, on both levels, and then nothing can stop them stopping.
This wasn’t given to Doreen before she came to our Hull hypnotist either, but she accepted all of it. The next stage was for her to have her hypnotherapy, which she did, on the basis that if she gained weight we would help her to lose it. This was a big step forward for her.
The result was interesting. Whilst it is true that some people put weight on when they stop smoking, by no means all do. In fact some actually lose weight. The reasons for this are complex and we’re not going in to them here. Whether the average Hull hypnotherapist has this kind of knowledge we can’t say. In any case, Doreen lost the weight she had put on previously, so she was doubly pleased.
TALK TO OUR HYPNOTIST FIRST
When you enquire about hypnotherapy we will discuss whether it’s what you need. If it is, we will have our Hull hypnotist phone you, because you will still want to see if you like them. Hypnotherapy is great, which is why we provide it, but your success will also depend on your relationship with the hypnotherapist you see.
