A SHORT CASE HISTORY
From our Nantwich hypnotherapy branch
Meena (not her real name) was very cautious when she rang our national helpline about hypnotherapy. She wanted to know if our service is confidential. Of course it is, and we did our best to assure her of that, but she remained worried about something. We tend to get asked this question when the caller wants to admit to smoking cannabis, but that wasn’t the case with Meena.
Meena’s issue was that she was Muslim, and her family didn’t know she smoked. Actually, her husband did, because he also smoked, but not her parents. She said she wanted to come to our Nantwich hypnotherapist, and with her parents living nearby she was afraid they would find out. Why would she be seeing a hypnotist? Well, of course she didn’t have to admit it was for stopping smoking, but that might even make it more problematic. In any case, it wasn’t an issue because we don’t discuss cases with anyone. She wondered if her GP would have to know, but again the answer was no.
Out Nantwich hypnotist booked Meena in for a time when her children would be at school, so she could have her hypnotherapy and be out in time to pick them up. Her next question was whether there would be any after-effects from the hypnosis that might affect her, but again the answer was no. Clients do tend to come out relaxed, but no-one ever suffered from being relaxed. Meena was a bit stressed when the session started, but as predicted she became very relaxed, and was in fact a good subject for hypnotherapy.
We often find that when married couples both smoke it is the wife who comes first. Men are more afraid of failure, and they need their wives to do it first to build their confidence. That was what happened with Meena’s husband. He came to see our Nantwich hypnotherapist a couple of weeks after her. This was partly because he decided if it worked for her it would work for him! But it was also because he was smoking near his wife, and that really wasn’t helping her to stay stopped.
Interestingly, he wasn’t such a good subject for hypnotherapy. He did quite well, but he was the kind of person who just doesn’t relax. Understandably, they don’t make good clients. Even so, our hypnotist in Nantwich is good at her job, and no-one is impossible as far as she is concerned. She did need to see him for a second session of hypnotherapy, but he got there in the end. The nice ending to the story was a grateful call from Meena for helping both of them.
THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK
Here is a really small taster from the book. If you are going to come to our Nantwich hypnosis branch, it’s a good idea to read the sample pages first.
….. If you smoke twenty times a day, your body gets twenty sugar rushes each day. Then you decide to stop smoking. You’re craving nicotine, but your body also remembers that just as nicotine relieves the need for sugar, sugar relieves the need for nicotine. They are, to some extent, interchangeable. So you eat a biscuit, your blood sugar goes up and that makes you feel a little better. You don’t need a cigarette for a while. An interesting thing happens, though, if your blood sugar goes up. You produce insulin to balance it out. If you eat sugar sensibly, you produce insulin sensibly, but if you eat a biscuit, which is almost all refined carbohydrate, that one biscuit can trigger a slight overproduction of insulin, depending on how your pancreas is working. This pushes your blood sugar slightly below the optimum level, and that tells your body to look for more sugar.
This doesn’t happen to everyone, but it certainly happens to some. And if it does, then you end up eating more and more.
TALK WITH OUR HYPNOTIST FIRST
When you call us about hypnosis, or complete the enquiry form, we will contact you to discuss whether hypnotherapy is what you need. If it is, we will have our Nantwich hypnotist phone you. They are highly qualified, of course, but you will still want to see if you like them. Hypnotherapy is great, which is why we provide it, but your success will to some extent depend on your relationship with the hypnotherapist you see.
