A SHORT CASE HISTORY
From our Wakefield hypnotherapy branch
Chris found us by mistake. It happens quite a lot. People look for information on help to stop smoking, and come across us. They hadn’t realised there is a national provider of smoking cessation therapy perhaps.
Chris hadn’t even thought of hypnosis, and he had never considered coming to our Wakefield hypnotherapy branch. He had assumed that what the NHS says, that the best way to stop smoking is to take more nicotine, must be true. Obviously it isn’t, but he had just never thought about it.
Why don’t local GPs tell patients about Wakefield hypnotists? General practices are private businesses that provide a service to the public, paid for by the NHS. They provide what the pharmaceutical companies contract to provide. When you look at it like that, it seems perfectly normal. Except for one problem. The health of the nation does not lend itself to profit. Selling drug products to the public through general practices has this one fatal flaw. Chris had been prescribed these products by his doctor, and had never stopped smoking. If GPs refer patients to Wakefield hypnotists, those companies sell less product, and doctors lose out on NHS payments.
Which brings us back to the question: why did Chris’s doctor advise him to call us? We suspect that busy GPs don’t have time to think about this. They just see, perhaps online, National Stop Smoking Centres, and don’t realise we provide hypnotherapy. It gets the patient out of the door, and perhaps some GPs even suppose they are going to get their payment from the NHS for doing it. Who knows?
Chris saw our Wakefield hypnotist and stopped smoking. Which just left him wondering about the whole system that had failed him before.
NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP SMOKING
Sometimes, people come to us not to stop smoking but for smoking reduction. It’s a choice they make, and we publish a book on reduction. ‘No, You Don’t Have to Stop Smoking’ will be of interest even if you do want to stop completely. Why not take a look at it before you visit our Wakefield hypnosis branch. Here is a taster to get you started.
….. I cannot exaggerate the importance of this diary, so you must decide right now that you are going to do it absolutely as I prescribe. Look, that makes it sound like a chore, but it isn’t. We give this task to people sometimes on the phone in our stop- smoking programmes, and we have never had anyone who has failed to do it, which we think means that even before they start the idea seems like a good one to them. Well, I’m hoping, before I even tell you what this is all about, that the idea of analysing your smoking seems to you to be a good one. Think about it; if you don’t understand your smoking habit, how are you ever going to change it?
So, enough of the preamble; let’s do this. In this chapter, you are going to keep a one-day diary of your smoking, then you’re going to do the same two days later, and then again two days after that, so you will finish with three days’ worth of information. It is important that you have a day’s gap inbetween, so please resist the urge to redesign this plan. It may seem a little odd but there is method in the madness.
TALK WITH OUR HYPNOTIST * FIRST
When you enquire about hypnotherapy we will discuss whether it’s what you need. If it is, we will have our Wakefield hypnotist phone you, because you will still want to see if you like them. Hypnotherapy is great, which is why we provide it, but your success will also depend on your relationship with the hypnotherapist you see.
