NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP SMOKING
Sometimes, people come to us not to stop smoking but for smoking reduction. It’s a choice they make, and we publish a book on reduction. ‘No, You Don’t Have to Stop Smoking’ will be of interest even if you do want to stop completely. Why not take a look at it before you visit our Castleford hypnotist. Here is a taster to get you started.
….. So smokers have two ways to get a sugar rush: from sugars and from tobacco. For this reason, because you are so conditioned to this peculiar state of affairs, when you stop smoking you instinctively go for starchy foods, because you know subconsciously that this will mimic smoking without you having to smoke. In other words, sugar can be used as a nicotine substitute. You know this is true, because teenage girls use tobacco as a sugar substitute.
So, now for the big question: does all of this apply when you are reducing your smoking rather than stopping? Well, yes and no (don’t you wish sometimes there was a simple answer?) It depends largely on how quickly you reduce your intake of tobacco, but it also depends on you not going below the addiction threshold, hence the yes and no.
Working with me on this, either with this book alone or in The Five-a-Day Plan, you are not going to reduce your smoking suddenly, so the bottom line is that none of this should matter to you, which is the good news you were hoping for. If you do find yourself craving food, especially sweet food, then either you are cutting down too fast or you are simply doing what you think you are supposed to do, which is eat more, to which I can only say don’t, because you really don’t need to.
Having said that, as you go through the process of becoming a light smoker it will be helpful to think about what you are eating, and rather than go into this in detail here (because it doesn’t concern most people and I don’t want to bore you if you are one of them), I have put some specific dietary information in Part Four.
