NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP SMOKING
Sometimes, people come to us not to stop smoking but for smoking reduction. It’s a choice they make, and we publish a book on reduction. ‘No, You Don’t Have to Stop Smoking’ will be of interest even if you do want to stop completely. ….. Let me explain. Your metabolism is your metabolism, which you had probably realised. What that means is that it’s the right metabolism, on the basis that your body doesn’t usually make mistakes of that kind. If you burn sugars at a given rate that is because that is what your body needs. If you then speed up that rate by smoking, that is the problem, not the slowing down when you stop smoking. This means that when you don’t smoke your body’s metabolism is actually allowed to function normally, the way it wants to, the way you have been artificially preventing by smoking. You should therefore assume that whatever your metabolic rate is if you don’t smoke is good for you. What you need to adjust is how you eat, not whether you smoke.
Now I shouldn’t need to tell you this but this book isn’t about stopping smoking, it’s about smoking a lot less. So let’s look at the real issue with weight gain when people stop smoking, see if this is likely to affect you because you are not stopping smoking, and if it is likely then what you can about it.
