This fee is for a course of three treatments. You should find this is more than enough to stop smoking.

A SHORT CASE HISTORY

Milly had a question that we do get asked sometimes. Could she, or should she, have both hypnosis AND acupuncture to stop smoking? Probably not, but to establish whether she was likely to need both therapies we needed to look at what her problems were with stopping.
We do have both a Camberley hypnotherapy and acupuncture service, so availability was not a problem for us. But we don’t want anyone spending money on both unnecessarily. Although we sometimes discuss this with clients it’s rare for anyone to need both. The reason for this is that although they work in different ways the result is much the same.
What we suggested to her was that she see our Camberley hypnotist, following which we would review her case. Typically this would be where she was really quite happy not smoking but the withdrawal from nicotine was threatening to undermine that. It can happen, but it’s uncommon. The other way round of doing this is to have acupuncture, and then see if there are any underlying psychological issues blocking the acupuncturist’s work.
Milly agreed to ‘start’, as she put it, with our Camberley hypnotherapist. She would see for herself how well she was going to do with hypnosis. She came along and did very well, as it happened. We put our Camberley acupuncturist on standby, because if she needed to see him it would have to be done quickly. In the event, though, she stopped smoking with the hypnotherapy after just one session.

You would be amazed how few people know how to breathe. Prove me wrong. Stand up and take a deep breath. Did your abdomen go in or out as you breathed in? Not sure? Do it again.
If you are anything like 99.9% of our patients, your belly goes in when you breathe in. Well, why not? I’ll tell you why not. Blow up a balloon. When you put air into it does it go out or in? Let the air out. Does the balloon go out or in? Fill up your lungs, they get bigger, like balloons, don’t they? So why, if your lungs are getting bigger, would your belly get smaller? Aha, you say, because I’m expanding my lungs in my chest, not my belly.
Yes you are. But don’t. Under your lungs is a muscular membrane called the diaphragm. This membrane is like a bellows. Above it, your lungs are like long balloons as opposed to round balloons; when they expand they try to expand lengthways as well as outwards. And what are you doing? Yes, you’re pulling your abdominal muscles in, which push your diaphragm up – against your lungs, so they can’t expand the way they want to.
Pulling your belly in when you breathe in actually limits your lung capacity. Trust me, it’s true. Why does this matter? Because when you are stressed your breathing changes; it becomes rapid and shallow. This is because you are producing adrenaline. Stress equals adrenaline. If you can’t reduce the stressor what you can do is reduce the adrenaline, by not forcing your body into a stress reaction, by breathing the way you would if you were calm. Calm people breathe deeply, stressed people breathe shallowly. Breathe deeply and you will become calmer.
