THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK
Here is a small taster from the book. If you are going to come to our Chester hypnotist or acupuncturist, why not read the sample pages first.
If nicotine did relieve stress, would it be a good way to do it?
The answer to this is obviously no, simply because the price you would pay for that relaxation would be too high. The only reason you even consider it acceptable is because it’s your drug of choice – you already use it and because, remember, nicotine turns your brain to mush, you are incapable of making a rational judgment about it.
Throwing yourself under a bus will stop you ever being stressed again, but it’s a bit drastic, isn’t it? Well, smoking is like throwing yourself under a bus in slow motion. I can think of any number of things you could do to be less stressed, without smoking. The list is so long I’m not even going to mention it, which would be silly. Look, imagine this scene:
A woman from another planet goes to see her GP.
‘Doctor, I’m so stressed, you’ve got to give me something.’
‘Alright, take these.’
‘What are they?’
‘They’re called cigarettes.’
‘I see. How do I take them?’
‘You put this end in your mouth and you light the other end. Smoke comes out of it and you inhale this.’
The woman looks doubtful.
‘And will this make me less stressed?’
‘Uhuh, it’s all the rage on Earth.’
‘Oh, right. I suppose there aren’t any side effects?’
‘No, well yes, some.’
‘Really, you mean someone has been made unwell by it?’
‘Um, yes.’
‘I see, well you must know what you’re doing. By the way, have many people been made unwell by it? And how unwell are you talking about?’
‘Alright, look, a few thousand Earthlings die each day.’
Point made?
