“Sigrun was really nice and made me feel very comfortable.” LN, Leeds

“Amazed and delighted. I’ve only had one treatment so far, but I haven’t smoked a single cigarette. Looking forward to my second treatment.” JT, Leeds

When you have seen our Leeds hypnotherapist or acupuncturist we will enrol you in our NSSC AfterCare programme. The support that comes with each therapy is different, although in each case it provides access to our unlimited help by telephone counselling.

Leeds Hypnotherapy AfterCare

Our specialist telephone support team will be looking after you for three years. Ff you need another session, they will arrange for to come back to see our Leeds hypnotist again.

Leeds Acupuncture AfterCare

You will be getting three years of counselling and support with acupuncture. In addition to the long-term support, we like to talk with you after the first treatment. This is to assess your progress and ensure that our Leeds acupuncturist has feedback to prepare for your second treatment.

If you are thinking about booking to see our Leeds hypnotist or acupuncturist, are you sure which of these therapies you need? Most clients ask us for hypnotherapy. We find, though, that most smokers actually know very little about it. Click on the link above to get the facts. And think about why you fail to stop smoking and ask yourself whether hypnosis solves those problems.

If you are thinking about our Leeds acupuncturist, then of course the same applies. We find most people are unfamiliar with acupuncture, especially for smoking cessation. So take the time to read about it first.

We are concerned to provide you with the therapy that is going to work best for you. We can look at the issues you have with stopping smoking and help you decide on the best course of action. Call us, on 01200 40 50 22, or complete the contact form..

It will pay you to understand the difference between these terms. If you are choosing between our Leeds hypnotists and acupuncturist, knowing why you can’t stop smoking is really going to help.

Addiction is physical. There is no such thing as psychological addiction. That is a term that often gets used, even by some doctors, but you can’t have it because it doesn’t exist. Addiction is what happens in your body when it becomes dependent of receiving any given substance. Clearly, that has no psychological element. Hypnosis resolves addiction at a tangent, while acupuncture deals with it directly.

What addiction creates is the belief that you need the substance, in this case tobacco. That belief is called dependence, which is psychological, to differentiate it from addiction. Acupuncture solves this by helping you to break your addiction. Hypnosis deals with it by altering what you believe.

Everyone who smokes regularly is addicted to nicotine. Most smokers are psychologically dependent at some level. When we talk on the phone we can assess which is your main problem. We can then decide which stop-smoking therapy is going to work best for you. If you are then going to book with one of our Leeds hypnotists, for example, this is because we believe hypnosis is going to solve your particular problems.

From our Leeds hypnotherapy branch

Luis called about hypnosis to stop smoking, and in a case like his there is always the same question we have to ask first. Everything depends on the answer to this question. Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy. The client has to be able to close his eyes and let the words the hypnotist is saying sink in. If they have got to read the therapist’s lips, they are having to concentrate too hard on understanding the words, and it just won’t work. So the question we had to ask Luis was, how good was his English? Clearly, it was not his mother tongue. We could not have our Leeds hypnotherapist faced with a client who couldn’t easily follow what he was saying.

Luis insisted that his English was good enough, but it wasn’t true. He wanted it to be good enough, but it’s not hard to test this on the telephone. If he couldn’t easily follow what we were saying on the phone, he couldn’t have hypnotherapy. And he couldn’t. We don’t like turning any smoker away, but we have to be completely truthful. He would have been wasting his money, and our time, if he had come for hypnosis.

Luckily, being a multi-discipline service provider, we didn’t have to turn him away. Our job is to help everyone to stop smoking, which is why we have three therapies. Luis couldn’t have hypnotherapy, but there was no reason at all why he shouldn’t come to our Leeds acupuncturist instead. When we suggested this it was clear he not only hadn’t considered it but he didn’t even know that acupuncture is a great smoking cessation therapy. There was a serious possibility that he would reject our advice and go and look for another hypnotist in Leeds. And perhaps another hypnotist would have taken him on. Who knows?

Luckily, he DID take our advice. Deep down, perhaps he knew his English wasn’t good enough. We got the impression he was grateful for our honesty, which he might not have got from an independent hypnotherapist. We’re not saying he wouldn’t, just that he might not.

We asked him to read up on our website about how acupuncture works in smoking cessation, which he did, and he called us back to book in to see our acupuncturist in Leeds. The therapy was ideal for him, because while we do need to provide counselling on the phone in-between acupuncture treatments, that’s not the same issue at all as explained above with hypnotherapy.

Sometimes, people come to us not to stop smoking but for smoking reduction. It’s a choice they make, and we publish a book on reduction. ‘No, You Don’t Have to Stop Smoking’ will be of interest even if you do want to stop completely. Why not take a look at it before you visit our Leeds hypnosis or acupuncture service. Here’s a little taster to get you started.

.. So, now that you’re feeling foolish for not doing something about this before, let’s get to grips with the problem. And the way we’re going to do that is to understand your smoking. You have been reading, earlier, about your addiction, and why it doesn’t matter in this process you’re going to go through because you’re not going to challenge it. So everything we are going to look at in this chapter, and indeed in the rest of the book, is all the other cigarettes you smoke. These are the cigarettes you don’t need, and mostly don’t even want, so they are certainly cigarettes that are costing you, in cash terms but more importantly in health terms, for no return.

From now on, all the work you are going to do is based on this next bit, which is your Smoking Diary. The diary is going to show you what your smoking habit really is. Trust me, it is almost never what people think it is. I’m not saying it’s more, or less, than people think, although the conventional wisdom is that people tend to understate the amount they smoke, which I’m not convinced about but even so this will also uncover any underestimation on your part.

Therapy might not be what you’re looking for. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Leeds City Council website here.
