A SHORT CASE HISTORY
From our Telford hypnotherapy branch
Lucy (not her real name) came to us with a very typical problem. She was pregnant. One of the first questions we asked Lucy was whether this was her first pregnancy. She already had a son of four, so our next question was whether she had managed to stop smoking during the earlier pregnancy. She hadn’t needed hypnosis on that occasion: she just stopped.
So of course, prior to her coming to our Telford hypnotist, we asked her if she really needed our help. She had stopped on her own last time, so did she need hypnotherapy now? Her answer was that she didn’t feel this time she could do it on her own. The question still remained, why had she started smoking again after the birth of her first child? It’s something so many women do, because it’s the right thing to do, but seemingly it isn’t right to stay stopped.
So Lucy booked in to our Telford hypnotherapy branch, but we took the opportunity, before her session, to talk about staying stopped this time. She was pretty sure that this time she would. Clients often say this, but in fact it’s true. Most people have to stop smoking more than once. This is where our AfterCare service comes in. During the three years of support, we are here in case a client does start again.
The question in Lucy’s case was whether she would start smoking again after stopping with our Telford hypnotist. And despite everything we discussed with her, she did. Seemingly she hadn’t leaned that lesson. So why is this? Why do so many mothers start again. It’s a big subject, so let’s just look at why Lucy did. She stopped for the right reason – her unborn child. But once her child was born she didn’t have a reason not to smoke.
So we talked with her again, and she came to our Telford hypnotherapist one more time. This time she wasn’t pregnant, so this time she stopped for a different reason – her.
NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP SMOKING
We help people to stop smoking, but we also help heavy smokers to become light smokers – IF THAT IS WHAT THEY WANT. We have a book on this subject, and there are lots of pages you can read for free. You might be interested to do this before you come to our Telford hypnosis branch. Here is a taster.
….. Why would anyone say it’s not worth cutting down because it will only go up again? Well, if they are the know-alls who always know more than you do about smoking, it’s just ignorance, but if it’s you, this matters. If you say this, or if you believe it when other people tell you it, there is an important reason. It’s because of your psychological dependence on smoking. This dependence is what makes it so hard for people to stop smoking, but it also makes it hard for people to even think about their smoking. It’s what makes smokers make excuses about why they can’t / don’t want to stop, and it inevitably has an effect on your decision about going through the process I’m talking about here, which is taking control of your smoking.
So if you are saying right now that there’s no point reducing your smoking because it will only go up again, I have just one thing to say to you. Don’t.
So much for why not cutting down makes no sense; let’s look now at the benefits of doing it.
