From our Andover hypnotherapy branch

Everyone who calls our national advice service is asked the same question, which is why they can’t stop smoking. We’re happy to provide acupuncture or hypnotherapy to anyone, so why do we ask this question? Because we need to know what their problems are before we can work out exactly what help they need. But also because they should know why they have had trouble stopping. It is remarkable how many people want to come to our Andover hypnotherapy branch because they believe hypnosis helps people to stop smoking, but they don’t know why.

When we asked Mandy the question, she didn’t know why either. When we get this answer we usually ask another question, which is if the smoker believes they are addicted. They always say yes to that one. So, we then ask them if they can see that this is why they can’t stop smoking. Oh yes, they say. That’s what Mandy said. We were quite happy to see her at our Andover hypnosis service, but we just wanted to take this to the next level before we booked her in. The next question clients sometimes ask is, if they are addicted, which is physical, how does hypnotherapy, which is psychological, help?

Well, of course we also have acupuncture for stopping smoking, but we provide hypnotherapy far more. This is because although addiction is physical, it can be overcome with the power of the mind. Mind over matter, if you like. Addiction creates psychological dependence, Overcoming THAT dependence allows the body to get over the addiction. Mandy had come to believe the myth that her addiction was in her head. The truth is addiction was in her body, but her brain wasn’t allowing her to deal with that. What our Andover hypnotist did was to switch off what her brain believed – that she needed to smoke. If she didn’t believe it, it didn’t matter what her body said. She just didn’t need to smoke.

It has to be admitted that Mandy didn’t really understand all of this. She was just pleased that it worked. She believed it was some kind of trick, and in fairness one could say that hypnosis is a kind of trick. Addiction itself is a trick, so why should our hypnotherapist in Andover not use the same tools to help Mandy break free?

Here’s a snippet from the book. There are lots of pages you can read for free. We suggest you do this before you come to our Andover hypnosis branch.

….. Now I want you to write why you want to start smoking again. No, it’s not a joke.

So, you didn’t write anything in it, huh? Now, write the reasons why you MIGHT start smoking again.

I would be interested to see if you wrote something because you are genuinely afraid of it, or you wrote nothing because you know there isn’t supposed to be anything now and you want to get it right. Well, it’s a good job I can’t see it, I expect, but what I’m hoping you’ve written is nothing. You have made mistakes before but there is now no reason for you to repeat those mistakes. Alright, there may be stress, there may be any number of reasons why you would smoke a cigarette because you’re not thinking, but there is now no possible reason why, if you make a mistake, you would smoke for the rest of your life, or a year, or even a week, because you have established beyond doubt that:

You want to be someone who doesn’t smoke.

You know why you got it wrong before.

You accept that the mistake was a mistake.

There is therefore no reason to repeat that mistake.

Hypnotherapy might not be what you’re looking for. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the NHS Hampshire Hospitals website here.
