OUR GUARANTEED AFTERCARE SERVICE

When you have seen our Brighton hypnotherapist or acupuncturist, or you have Addiction Management, we will enrol you in our NSSC AfterCare programme. The support that comes with each therapy is different, although in each case it provides access to our unlimited help by telephone counselling..

Brighton Hypnotherapy AfterCare

This gives three years of support. We strongly advise you to call the helpdesk the day after your first session. We will talk through how the session went, how you fell right now, and what, if anything, else we need to do to prepare you for your second session.

Brighton Acupuncture AfterCare

Because acupuncture is done in three sessions, we suggest you call us after each one (at the very least after the first). Acupuncture is what we call a single-discipline therapy, and we provide it as part of a package, because you will get the best result if we work with you between treatments, on the psychological issues as well. This is a three-year support package.

Addiction Management AfterCare

The support with AM is somewhat different. If you need more of your Tobacco Factor, this is provided at a small charge (see the fees here). Our phone support is available, though, for an unlimited time, which means for life.

THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Here is a small taster from the book. Before coming to our acupuncturist or hypnotherapist in Brighton, it’s a good idea to read the sample pages first.

The I’ve failed so I can’t stop so I don’t want to stop test

An awful lot of people we talk to say they don’t want to stop, and then when we question them further they say they’ve tried, lots of times, and this raises an interesting question, which I want you to answer now.

How many attempts, serious or otherwise, have you made to stop smoking?

Although obviously the more attempts you have made the more it means you want to stop, if you have made any attempts at all it completely negates any statement you might make to the effect that you don’t want to stop. Why on Earth would you have tried to stop if you don’t want to?

Your problem is not that you don’t want to stop, it’s that you’ve failed, perhaps many times, so you no longer believe you can. That’s not the same thing at all, and I want you to promise me, right now, that you will stop believing this nonsense.

A SHORT CASE HISTORY

From our Brighton hypnotherapy branch

James had had hypnosis before, although it was a long time ago, but his memory of it was that it not been a success In that case, we wondered, indeed we asked James, why was he calling us about having hypnotherapy again?

We find quite a lot of what we should call confusion among smokers about what has worked and what happened. When someone calls us the main question we ask is about their previous attempts to stop smoking. If they are asking to see our Brighton hypnotherapist, we naturally want to know if they have had hypnotherapy before. James was a bit hazy about what had happened with it before, because it was quite a few years ago. What he was able to tell us, though, was that t had been done by a friend of a friend, who ‘was learning hypnosis’. This rang alarm bells with us, and it should have with James.

The point here is that not all hypnotherapy is equal. We would be the first to recommend a different therapy if we could see that hypnosis was wrong for a client. But in this case we had to assume it was the therapist, not the client, who had failed. What James needed to know was that who you see for any therapy really does matter. That you cannot judge a therapy on the basis of any given therapist. This would be like saying nicotine replacement products don’t work just because you tried them and they didn’t. Fair enough, they don’t in most cases, but that’s not the point.

There are lots of Brighton hypnotists, and James found us more or less by chance. He was attracted to our website mainly because he could see we are a national organisation that sets standards, and this was something he hadn’t come across before. Indeed, there is a reason for that, which is that there is no standard for hypnotherapists, no governing body, and no-one monitoring therapists. We do all of that, but only within the field of smoking cessation of course. We find that almost no-one coming to us to stop smoking, who had had hypnotherapy before, has ever considered the issue of qualifications. People simply make an assumption that whoever they see is qualified. Don’t get us wrong – most therapists are. But only most.

Our hypnotherapist in Brighton is not only qualified but she has a great deal of experience. And she is regularly monitored to ensure that she conforms to the standards we set, which she does of course. Every National Stop Smoking Centres Partner therapist does, which is the reason we provide our service. The NHS is unable to provide smoking cessation therapy, and we were established in 1991, twenty-six years ago, to provide such therapy in a way that smokers can trust. All hypnotherapy is not equal.

James did stop smoking when he came to us. He had a minor setback the next day and had to avail himself of our AfterCare service, but in any case we provide two sessions at our Brighton hypnosis service, so by the time he came for his follow-up appointment he was ready to stop for good, which he did.

OTHER BRIGHTON STOP SMOKING RESOURCES

Some people want to take drug products to stop smoking. If you prefer that to hypnotherapy or acupuncture, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Brighton and Hove City Council website here.
