When you have seen our Urmston hypnotherapist we will enrol you in our NSSC AfterCare programme. The support that comes with each therapy is different, although in each case it provides access to our unlimited help by telephone counselling.

Urmston Hypnotherapy AfterCare

This gives three years of support. We have been helping people to stop smoking for more than a quarter of a century, so we’re very experienced at this. If you have a problem, we will have an answer. If that means we need to offer you a follow-up session with our Urmston hypnotist, we will do so.

From our Manchester hypnotherapy branch in Urmston

Martin had stopped smoking several times. He found it quite easy to stop. His problem was that he couldn’t stay stopped. The first question this raises is what is meant by staying stopped. Many people think it means for a year, but that is an arbitrary measure that has no meaning.

Before Martin came to our Urmston hypnosis service, we asked him this question., His first reaction was surprise. No-one had ever ask him this before, or made him think about the subject at all. His GP had simply said that he failed, without asking what failure meant. The NHS smoking cessation model is simplistic. Someone who isn’t smoking has succeeded, and someone who is has failed. This is terribly damaging, because, as we say above, what about the person who succeeds, and then starts again? And when we say the person we mean the hundreds of thousands of people every year. Our Urmston hypnotist took on Martin’s case on the understanding that the client would always keep in mind this question.

In fact Martin completely accepted that what he had believed before wasn’t true. That it wasn’t a simple binary issue. And here we come to the really important bit. That once he had had hypnotherapy to stop smoking, success and failure were irrelevant. What mattered was not even how long he stopped for, but why (if at all of course) he started again. Having understood that, he looked at why he started before, each time he had stopped. Once he understood that, he knew what he actually needed to do to stay stopped.

There were two solutions to his problem. The first was that our Manchester hypnotist needed to build into the session of hypnotherapy a long-term strategy. The second was that Martin needed to understand that his hypnotherapy was not the only part of what we were giving him. Yes, he might make a mistake. That would be only human, and let’s face it, he had made mistakes before. There was only so much our Urmston hypnotherapist could do to prevent that happening. The long-term solution was for Martin just to let us know if he did get it wrong. Any problem can be solved. The only time that is not true is when a client thinks his hypnotherapy is all there is and doesn’t tell us when he has a problem. Martin didn’t make that mistake.

Here is a small taster from the book. If you are coming to our Urmston hypnotherapist in Manchester, it’s a good idea to read the free sample pages first.

….. A patient came to us once and stopped smoking. She went off to see her GP, who had been nagging her about her smoking but hadn’t actually offered her any worthwhile help with it. She told him she had stopped and he expressed surprise and he said how long have you been stopped for and she said ten days and he laughed. Come back, he said, and tell me when you’ve been stopped a year. She was so upset she smoked again. Doctor one, patient nil. Had I ruled the world I would have taken his licence off him.

So to a clever dick GP stopping means a year, and to me it means overnight, but where does the truth lie? How do you know when you have succeeded? Well, an easy answer but not necessarily the right one is that if you are not smoking you don’t smoke. Aha but, you say, I’m only not smoking for now, but I know I will in an hour’s time.

Yes? Can you guarantee that? What if you have a heart attack and die in that time? Would that mean you died a smoker or a non-smoker? Well, you say, a smoker, because I didn’t believe I had stopped before I died. Or, you might say, a non-smoker because when I put that last one out I promised myself that would be my last ever cigarette.

Confused? Even if you’re not, I am.

Hypnotherapy might not be the right method for you. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the NHS Greater Manchester website here. If they can’t help, you are welcome then to see our Urmston hypnotist.
