A SHORT CASE HISTORY
From our Barrow-in-Furness hypnotherapy branch
Hannah was an old client from four years ago. She had been to our hypnotherapist back then and had been successful, so why was she back? Well of course she had started smoking again, but why? Why does anyone who has stopped smoking start again, whether they stopped with hypnotherapy or any other method?
The reasons are clear. Stress is the main one, followed by social pressure, alcohol and some other minor reasons. Some people just start again for no reason, which is what they think but not actually true. Smoking kills. No-one does it without a reason, even if they don’t know what it is. Hannah didn’t know. She asked to see our Barrow hypnotist, who had helped her before. They had got on very well, and Hannah was confident that another session of hypnotherapy would sort her out.
However, before we booked another hypnotherapy session for her we wanted to help her to understand where she had gone wrong. There was little doubt our great Furness hypnotist could help her again, but we wanted to ensure she didn’t make the same mistake again. Helping people to stay stopped comes in three parts. The hypnotist can build it into the session, and this does help. And we can give some good advice on staying stopped through our AfterCare service. But it’s actually as simple as stopping again, for the main part. People do learn the lesson, and anyone who stopped smoking for four years is almost certain to stop and stay stopped after more hypnotherapy.
Hannah enjoyed seeing our hypnotist in Barrow again, like meeting an old friend. She felt a little embarrassed, but this soon passed. This was only a year ago, so we can’t report that she stayed stopped longer than before. We’re not expecting to hear from her again, although she knows we’re here if she needs us. We have no doubt she will ask for help if she needs it. Our relationship with clients is a long one, even if they want to have their hypnotherapy and forget about it. Hannah knows our Barrow hypnotist would never make a judgment about her if she did need more help.
THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK
Here is a small taster from the book. If you are going to come to our hypnotherapist in Barrow-in-Furness, it’s a good idea to read the free sample pages first.
….. The toxins in tobacco smoke are of three kinds, in that they do three kinds of damage. There are:
Carcinogens – they generate cancers.
Mutagens – they alter your genes, so you pass on faulty genes to your children.
Teratogens – they cause malformations in your offspring.
The simple way to think of them, though, is that they come embedded in a thick tar that sticks to everything.
Have you ever had a ticklish cough first thing in the morning? Have you ever coughed up tar-coloured phlegm? The reason is that your lungs are self-cleaning. If they are irritated they produce a cough to eliminate the irritant. The coughing is your lungs attempting to get rid of tar. The best way to stop the cough is, perversely, to smoke. When the lungs see more smoke coming they give up trying to clear out the old tar and concentrate on absorbing the new tar.
