THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK
Before seeing our Bedford hypnotherapist, you should read the sample pages on our website.
Here is a very small taster:
….. So how do you distinguish between being stopped and not being stopped, really? Well, unsurprisingly I shall be talking about that later so I’m not going into a lot of detail now, but the larger question is why is staying stopped so hard, and the answer is perhaps that people think they have started smoking again when they haven’t, because smoking one cigarette, or even a whole pack, does not mean you have started smoking again.
It could, but it doesn’t have to. Not if you don’t want it to. So the question why is it hard to stay stopped is actually two questions:
Why is it hard not to smoke a cigarette once you’ve stopped?
Why is it hard not to go back to smoking once you’ve had a cigarette?
Some of the smokers who phone us, those who have been stopped before, say they were happy non-smokers and they were shocked when they started again. Others say they were never sure they were non-smokers. It was more like they were smokers who weren’t smoking, which sounds daft but isn’t. (Even stranger, we occasionally speak to someone who says they feel like a non-smoker who smokes. Figure that one out.)
OTHER BEDFORD STOP SMOKING RESOURCES
Hypnotherapy might not be what you need. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Bedford Borough Council website here.
