Here is a very small taster:
Allocating the time to stop smoking
You wouldn’t think that stopping doing something would be a project you would need to allocate time for, but with smoking it is.
Not doing this is a reason why some people fail. It’s a bit difficult for someone who no longer smokes, like me, to get your head round this one, but there are smokers who ‘forget’ not to smoke. You might wonder how they could do that. I mean, surely, if you don’t have cigarettes and you have decided not to smoke there can’t be a lot to forget. Some people say oh well I forgot I was supposed to be stopping and a friend offered me one and I just took it.
Yes, well, when you put it like that it’s understandable. Except for two things. First, had you told your friend right at the beginning that you were stopping they might not have offered you one. And if you had decided that if you ever smoke you will address how you respond to it (which is explained in Part Two), then you wouldn’t have made the mistake of smoking a second one.
In other words, if you had really thought it through, allocated time and space in your brain to this matter, you wouldn’t have made the mistake of smoking, or using that as an excuse to carry on smoking. Stopping smoking isn’t something that happens on its own. You do have to work on it. It is a life-changing project and I think a life-changing project warrants some space of its own.
