THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Before seeing our Worksop hypnotherapist, you might want to read the free sample pages on our website.
Here is a very small taster:

Because I enjoy it

Calculate the financial cost, each year, of smoking. Let’s call smoking a hobby you enjoy but it’s time to work out not if you can afford it but if, which is different, you can justify it on the grounds purely of enjoyment. No, I know you already know you can’t afford it, but don’t spoil my fun.

Say you smoke 20 a day, and that costs you, let’s say, £6. That’s £2190 a year. Now, suppose you were making a decision at this point whether you could take on a commitment of £2190 a year, not for a child’s education, or for a new car or anything else, but for something that brings the pleasure of smoking, whatever you believe that pleasure to be. I want you to ask yourself if you believe you can justify that pleasure at a cost of £2190 a year. Forget whether it’s a real pleasure or not, and just assume it is. What would you rather have, right now, smoking or a new car? Smoking or a great family holiday every year? Smoking or, to go to extremes, supporting the education of several children in Africa?

If you believe you don’t want to stop smoking because you like it too much, you need to challenge that belief in a very real way, because right now that pleasure is costing you a family holiday, and I want you to ask yourself which pleasure you would rather have.

The problem with this whole idea, though, is that you don’t enjoy smoking, you just tell yourself you do. It’s an excuse. But it’s an excuse that has gone past its sell-by date, isn’t it?

OTHER WORKSOP STOP SMOKING RESOURCES

Hypnotherapy might not be what you’re looking for. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Smokefreelife Nottinghamshire website here.
