THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Here is a small taster from the book. If you are going to come to our hypnotherapist in Newtownabbey, it’s a good idea to read the sample pages first.

….. So what, you’re wondering, was the answer? The answer was that the fear of stopping smoking, believe it or not, stays with some people after they have actually stopped. The fear of most things goes away with actual experience of that thing, but with smoking the brain is so much under the control of the drug that even after you stop using it the fear of coming off it can remain. When you then start smoking again it does a terrible thing – it confirms in your brain that you shouldn’t have stopped in the first place, that the fear was justified. And if you were afraid to stop before, now you have started again you find it almost impossible to think straight. Which means there is no cognitive approach that will work.

In Michael’s case, we were considering using hypnotherapy to overcome the problem, to help us bypass the fear by getting straight into his subconscious mind, but in the end we didn’t need to. Our resident homeopath gave him a remedy that worked directly on the problem medically, and within a week Michael’s attitude to stopping had changed dramatically. We put him back on the original treatment we had used for him to stop, and he simply stopped smoking.
