A STOP-SMOKING TIP

Before you book to see our Preston hypnotist or acupuncturist we recommend that you consider if you are choosing the correct therapy. Everyone knows a little about hypnotherapy, but do they know enough? Do you? There is some good information on this site, so click on the link above to get the facts. Think about why you have previously failed to stop smoking and ask yourself – does hypnotherapy solve that problem?

The same, naturally, applies if you are thinking of seeing our Preston acupuncturist. We find most smokers are unfamiliar with acupuncture, at least for stopping smoking. Do take the time to read about it before making a final decision.

If all this makes you confused, then why not call us? We’re here to help, and making sure you get the right therapy matters to us, so you can be confident we are going to give you unbiased advice.

ANOTHER STOP-SMOKING TIP

One of the issues people are concerned about, when they call about seeing our Preston hypnotist or acupuncturist, is stress. They often say they can’t stop smoking because of it. Or that they smoke more when they are stressed. Or that they did stop, but it was stress that made them start again. It all comes down to the same thing. The belief that smoking relieves stress.

Well, we can tell you something for sure here. Smoking does not reduce stress. It doesn’t matter how much you think it does, it really doesn’t.

Here is an explanation. You smoke, so you are addicted to nicotine. When you don’t get a drug you are addicted to, you become stressed. When you don’t smoke, you don’t get nicotine and you feel stressed. When you then smoke, the nicotine makes you feel less stressed. So what smoking is doing is nothing more than relieving the stress you feel because you haven’t smoked. There is nothing in tobacco that relieves any other kind of stress.

The problem this causes is that it creates the belief that it is smoking that makes you less stressed. It’s just not true. So accept this fact before you book with our Preston hypnotist or acupuncturist.

DOING IT RIGHT

TEN TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST FROM OUR THERAPY

Smokers come to our Preston hypnosis or acupuncture branch not only because they want to see a good therapist. We provide a comprehensive service, and part of that is to advise and support you every step of the way. Here are some tips to get you started.

Prior to your therapy:

1. Investigate acupuncture here or hypnotherapy here.

2. Read up on important aspects of stopping smoking from The NSCI Stop-Smoking Handbook.

3. We have several videos covering different aspects of smoking cessation. Time spent watching them will serve you well.

Then:

4. Our Preston hypnotist or acupuncturist needs to know why you can’t stop smoking. Be frank with them.

5. Avoid tomatoes, and any food containing tomato, for the first four or five days. The reason is explained elsewhere on this site. Or phone us and we’ll explain.

6. If you were a recovering alcoholic, you would not expect people to drink in your home. You are going to be a recovering nicotine addict. No-one smokes in your home.

7. The day after the session (first treatment in acupuncture), talk to our NSSC AfterCare team, on 01200 40 50 22. It’s this support that makes us different from independent therapists.

8. Many people think it’s a good idea to test themselves by socialising and drinking. Actually, it’s a really bad idea. Why would you do that? Tell your friends you are stopping smoking. If you won’t support you, they’re not really friends, are they?

9. The morning of your appointment, throw away all your tobacco / cigarettes.

And finally:

10. We have already said that support is what makes us special. Promise yourself that once you have seen our acupuncturist or hypnotist in Preston you will keep in touch with our AfterCare team.
