A STOP-SMOKING TIP

Before you decide to see our Camden hypnotist do take a little time to ensure that this is the right therapy for you. Everyone has heard of hypnotherapy, and most people decide to use it on that basis. They have heard of it but they actually know very little about it. How much do you know? There is some good information on this site, so click on the link above to get the facts. Think about why you haven’t stopped smoking before and ask the only question that matters. Does hypnotherapy solve that problem?

In fact almost everyone does very well with it. What we’re saying here is that there are other options, and they should be considered. The main one is of course acupuncture. This is every bit as successful, but for some reason is less well known by smokers. It may be more suited for you, so read about it before you decide. We have a Camden acupuncture branch as well. If you then feel ready to make an appointment with our Camden hypnotist, then by all means go ahead.

If you’re still not sure, then why not call us? We’re here to help, and making sure you get the right therapy matters to us, so you can be confident we will give you good advice.

ANOTHER STOP-SMOKING TIP

A question we usually expect to be asked is how successful our Camden hypnosis and acupuncture services are. The problem with this is that it’s not possible to answer it in an ethical way. This is because success rates can’t be proved, and so claiming a rate would not be honest, and we don’t do that.

But we do want to give a helpful answer, so this is what we say instead. There are three things you can do to make this work.

The first is to choose either therapy because you have thought about why you fail to stop smoking, and you know it solves your problems. If you’re not sure about that, call us and we can advise you. We will work out which is right for you, and then get either our Camden acupuncturist or hypnotist to call you to make an appointment.

The second factor is finding a therapist with qualifications and experience. Of course, that is why we here, so that one is sorted.

And the third, which you might not have thought about, is support. Talking with specialist counsellors after you’ve seen our acupuncturist or hypnotist in Camden can make a lot of difference. This service is provided free of charge for three years.

And here is something more for you to think about. You have probably failed to stop smoking with the NHS’s drug products, which is why you are here. You may have come to believe, because you keep failing, that you will never succeed. Think again. You have been using pharmaceutical products. That has nothing to do with therapy. Therapy, of any kind, works better than drugs. .

DOING IT RIGHT

TEN TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR THERAPY

We want all our clients to get the best from our Camden hypnotherapy or acupuncture service. Follow these instructions and you will help us to help you.

Before your appointment:

1. Read about acupuncture here, or hypnotherapy and how it works here. There is also a lot of free pages from our book you can read here.

2. Watch our videos here. You don’t need to watch all of them. Just select the ones that interest you the most.

Then:

3. At the session, ask our Camden hypnotist / acupuncturist anything at all. Don’t hold back – they need to know what you need.

4. The day after, call the NSSC AfterCare helpdesk. Their function is to make sure everything is going well. If it is, great. If it isn’t, they will help you to fix it.

5. No tomatoes, and any food containing tomato. If you don’t know why, call us.

6. If you are tempted to go out drinking with friends who smoke, wait until you don’t care about smoking.

7. If you have a smoker in the house, they need to support you. This means a) not smoking inside, and b) not leaving cigarettes around.

8. Just throw away all smoking materials. Why wouldn’t you?

9. Tell your friends you have stopped smoking and get their support.

And after the session:

10. If you have a problem call us. If you think you might smoke, call us. If you do smoke, call us. We will never judge you. We’re here to help, and we’re very good at it. Don’t call our hypnotist or acupuncturist in Camden, call the AfterCare service, on 01200 40 50 22.

THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Before seeing our Camden acupuncturist or hypnotherapist, you might read the sample pages on our website.
Here is a taster:

Maintaining the addiction

Although you need about four cigarettes or so each day to avoid withdrawal symptoms, the addiction is not finally lost until there is no longer any nicotine in your body. That takes about four days, variable again for the same reasons as above. This is why some people are extremely light smokers, and why some are what they call social smokers. They tend to say oh I can take it or leave it, I only smoke when I go to the pub, but in most cases they are going to the pub at least twice a week, and while they don’t like to be told they are addicted, as if that’s some kind of insult, technically they are.

Passive smoking

There is enough nicotine in someone else’s smoke to keep you addicted. Some people don’t even need to smoke. They just keep breathing smoke from other people’s cigarettes and they can avoid withdrawal symptoms.

We once had a woman asking us for help. She said that every time she stopped smoking her daughter’s behaviour changed. Was it just that she was stressed and she thought it changed?

Unlikely, but we tested the daughter at the same time as her mother and, yes, she was addicted. She was 11 years old. She had never smoked a cigarette, but she was addicted to the nicotine she had been absorbing from her mother’s smoking. We had to treat her at the same time as her mother to get round the problem.

Naturally, then, when you stop smoking it is important to avoid smoky places, which in any case is easy enough to do these days, but it also means, if you have a smoking person in your household, that they cannot smoke in the same room as you. This is not an option. I don’t care what you have to say to them, but this is non-negotiable.

OTHER CAMDEN STOP SMOKING RESOURCES

Therapy might not be what you’re looking for. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Camden NHS website here.
