A STOP-SMOKING TIP

Many smokers who call about our Daventry hypnotist want to know about the success rate for our therapy. We give everyone the same answer, which is that we can’t say. This doesn’t mean we don’t know, it means we’re not allowed to say. As part of a medical foundation, we have strict ethical rules, and one of these is that we cannot make claims which we can’t prove. In fact no therapist should make such claims.

We give potential clients an answer which we believe is more helpful. This is that, first of all, we provide therapy, and therapy is always more successful than the drug products the NHS uses. And then we explain the three things the smoker can do to make it work.

  1. Use the therapy that is right for you. Not for other people, for you. This means looking at why you have a problem with stopping smoking and finding the therapy that solves those issues. Too many smokers, for example, use nicotine replacement products not because they solve the problems they have but because they are easy to get (and cheap). That’s not the way to do it.
  2. Find a qualified, experienced, ethical therapist. Well, you’re here, so that’s that one solved.
  3. Demand post-therapy support. Independent therapists do often offer this, but they have two problems. One is that they are not always available, because they are seeing clients. We have a dedicated AfterCare service. The other is that they don’t specialise. We do. We only do smoking cessation, which makes us more knowledgeable than any therapist you will ever see.

If you are thinking of booking with our Daventry hypnotherapist, read about how it works on the page we have on this site. Then call us or complete the contact page. We will talk through your stop-smoking issues and advise on the correct therapy for you. We will answer any questions you have. And then, when you’re ready, we will have our Daventry hypnotist call you. Get to know them, ask them in detail about how they work. Then, if you are ready, they can offer you an appointment, usually within days.

THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Here is a very small taster:

Why smokers don’t want to stop.

If I took a clipboard out onto the street and asked smokers if they want to stop, I can tell you what the answer would be. Ninety percent of them, minimum, would say no. If I then asked them another question, which is have you ever tried to stop smoking, almost all of them would say yes.

So we seem to have a wee conflict here. If they don’t want to stop why have they tried? It doesn’t make sense. Except that it does. When they say they don’t want to stop, they don’t actually mean they don’t want to stop. It’s a classic case of saying the wrong thing, another interesting human characteristic. What they actually mean is that they don’t believe they CAN stop, because they keep failing, so they interpret that as leave me alone will you. But excuse me, it’s just not good enough.

Saying you don’t want to stop should mean that, not I can’t so I don’t want to. You can’t win the lottery but you want to. So far then, I’ve just proved the opposite of what I called this tutorial. I seem to be saying people say they want to stop when they don’t. Confused? Just wait.

OTHER DAVENTRY STOP SMOKING RESOURCES

Therapy might not be what you’re looking for. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Northamptonshire NHS Stop-Smoking Service website here.
