A STOP-SMOKING TIP

One question we are often asked is how successful our hypnotherapy is. It’s a very natural question to ask. There is, though, no simple answer. Let us be clear about something. Phone any Scunthorpe hypnotist and ask them how successful they are; the honest answer is that there is no answer. Why?

Because of ethics. Saying how good you are is making a claim. But you cannot prove that claim, in which case it is unethical to make it. We at National Stop Smoking Centres make no such claims, and our Scunthorpe hypnotist won’t if you ask them. Instead, we will tell you there are three things you can do to give yourself the best chance of success.

The first is have the correct therapy. That is going to happen, because unlike independent therapists we offer a range of stop-smoking methods. Whatever method is best for you is one we can provide.

The second is to make sure you see a properly qualified therapist, one who has a lot of smoking cessation experience. That, obviously, is why you come to NSSC.

And finally, something few people think about when looking for stop-smoking therapy. Support. Our Scunthorpe hypnotist is very good indeed, but we’re not talking here about them, we’re talking about you. You are human. You have probably stopped smoking before, and started again. So you know things go wrong. Our view of this is that a mistake does NOT mean you have failed. It means we need to help you. That is what we mean by support.

Our AfterCare service is available to you for three years. We don’t mind you calling; in fact we WANT you to call. It’s why we’re here. And we are very good at this. The biggest mistake clients make when they hit a problem is to believe they have failed. Call our AfterCare team, and we will show you how to sort it out. And here is a promise: We will always be non judgmental. So don’t be afraid to call because we’re on your side.

THE NSCI STOP SMOKING HANDBOOK

Before seeing our Scunthorpe hypnotherapist, you might like to read the free sample pages on our website.
Here is a very small taster:

There are two ways of knowing something (probably more than two for all I know) – you can have intellectual knowledge and then there is emotional knowledge. The logic that smoking is a bad thing is irrefutable and every smoker knows that, but every smoker’s brain is under the control of a drug that changes their perception of that knowledge, that makes it hard to FEEL that smoking is bad.

We do a lot of talking to smokers. I personally have spent many happy hours just talking to smokers even in the street, learning from them. What is so depressing is the overwhelming number who say they don’t want to stop, but accept they are on an addictive drug that is likely to be very bad for them. It’s like they are saying look, I’m talking nonsense and you and I both know that but let me just go on believing it.

This is the true impact of drug addiction, the human brain’s ability to know it is trapped but its inability to figure out that it matters. Smoking is irrational, but so is buying national lottery tickets. You know you’re not going to win but you still do it. Believing the unbelievable is an interesting human characteristic. We’ve got the biggest brains on the planet but we’re the only life form that goes bungee jumping.

Inevitably, the question, why do people keep smoking, is tied in with the fact that if you don’t keep smoking you have to stop, and is of course the subject of the next tutorials. When you think about it, you do what you want and you don’t do what you don’t want, and if you’re doing something that you stop wanting to do you stop doing it. It’s kind of simple. But stopping smoking becomes more than not doing something, it becomes doing something. The stopping becomes an active process.

OTHER SCARBOROUGH STOP SMOKING RESOURCES

Therapy might not be what you’re looking for. If it isn’t, and you want to take pharmaceutical products to stop smoking, we suggest you see your GP.. You can also visit the Scarborough and Rydale NHS website here.
